Local Search Engine Marketing has been expanding for the last five years but was very slow moving. It wasn't until the launch of the Google One Box and the Apple iPhone that Local Search Advertising received the credit it deserved.
If you're seeking a big name store or a brand name location, proximity is a driver and visitors will find that result naturally....but if someone is searching for generic terms like childcare, restaurant, dry cleaner, insurance agent or hotels the availability of your listing is critical. Each of these situations are unique and require different levels of information for local search engine marketing to work. Search engines, online directories, Internet yellow pages, social network sites, and city guides are enhancing users visits by providing pin point results for local searches. The problem is they are crawling billions of website pages and not getting the data that is always fresh. This is a major step towards the evolution of local search. Engines that accept merchant supplied data allow additional attributes like business description, service categories and brands sold. These additional attributes increase the chances for a merchant's business listing to appear under a wider range of relevant search queries.
